NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED

STROKE CENTER

The nationally recognized stroke center in Casper is a collaborative effort Wyoming Neurologic Associates and Wyoming Medical Center. Started in 2006, this Primary stroke center has consistently achieved the highest standards set by The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association. Casper serves as the main referral center and central hub for the statewide system of care for stroke. ​
A stroke occurs every 40 seconds in the United States
  • 800,000 strokes every year in the US
  • 5th leading cause of death (133K/year)
  • The leading cause of long-term disability
Time is brain (1.9M neurons/min) and effective treatments are available
  • Intravenous alteplase (IV tPA) is effective up to 4.5 hours after symptom onset
  • Mechanical thrombectomy may be effective up to 24 hours in certain patients
We need a system of care that ensures every person in Wyoming who has a stroke can be treated effectively
  • Public education regarding symptoms of stroke and importance of calling 911
  • EMS training for stroke recognition, severity assessment and management during transport
  • System wide triage plan to ensure rapid transport to the nearest appropriate facility

​WNA is leading the way in developing the statewide system of care. This will include service as the Hub for a regional TeleStroke system
